If the brief is vague, the work will be too

Most disappointing campaigns were disappointing in the brief, and everyone signed it anyway.

A printed campaign brief covered in handwritten edits.

A brief that cannot name the buyer, the objection, and the number it is trying to move is not a brief. It is a budget with a mood board attached.

“You can trace almost every disappointing campaign back to a sentence in the brief that nobody wanted to argue about.”

The fix is unglamorous and takes a week: one page, three answers, signed by the person who owns the number. Everything downstream gets faster, including the arguments.
